Sunday Telegraph: Mining Supplement September 2010

The SRK Group comprises approximately 1,000 staff, offering expertise to the mining and metals sector in a wide range of resource engineering disciplines from 38 offices located on six continents. The SRK Group’s independence is ensured by the fact that it holds no equity in any project and that it is itself wholly owned by its staff. This permits the SRK Group to provide its clients with conflict-free and objective recommendations on crucial judgement issues. The European and Central Asian practices of the SRK Group operates from five consulting practices: two in the United Kingdom and one each in the Russia, Sweden and Turkey.

Market Sectors and Clients

The primary focus of our offices in Europe and Central Asia is the provision of natural resource consulting services to the mining and metals sector. Geographic coverage comprises the European, Central Asian and African regions and also extending globally through our well established relationship with the European financial markets and institutions and the broader SRK Group.

We have a client base which includes private companies, publicly listed companies, ranging from junior exploration, to mid-tier developers and vertically integrated global operators; financial, accounting and legal advisors to the mining and metals sector; EPCM contractors; and public sector organisations.

Consulting Services

Our services to the mining and metals sector comprise both the management and completion of multi-disciplinary technical studies (authoring mandates) and reviews and audits (due diligence) of technical studies completed by others. Our work covers the full spectrum of the project development chain inclusive of grassroots exploration, advanced exploration properties, development properties, brown-field expansions and mine closure.

The multi-disciplinary studies we manage range from conceptual, through scoping, pre-feasibility to feasibility studies to bankable standards; and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments incorporating IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Guidelines and ICMM. Due diligence review mandates comprise independent technical reports to support our client’s access to the global debt (Independent Engineers’ Reports) and equity (CPRs, NI 43-101) capital markets.

Current Strategies

Our strategies continue to focus on a combination of both organic growth and expansion into new geographic areas through the continued development of our existing practices and the establishment of new practices. Our latest growth project is SRK Kazakhstan, which was formally established in 2010 and will commence providing consulting services from Almaty in Q4 2010. This follows on from the establishment of SRK Sweden which continues to grow and is now providing consulting services throughout the Fenno-Scandinavian region.

In addition to our technical work we are also represented on many international mining forums and have close links with universities throughout the region. Notably, we contribute to several international Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve reporting initiatives; the development of stock exchange reporting guidelines; and support the Federation of European Masters Programme and the MSc course in Mining and Energy Finance at Imperial College. We have also provided input to the establishment of what is now one of the leading international mining conferences in Russia (Minex). We also maintain our quality standards through ISO9001 and are proud to hold a Queen’s Award for Enterprise which was awarded in 2006. Our commitment to our staff is exemplified by inclusion in the UK’s Sunday Times Best 100 Small Companies to work for list.
