Trystan Thornton, Consultant (Mining Engineering)

"I applied for the SRK Consulting Scholarship Programme as a novice to the mining industry. My MSc placement, organised by SRK, was a quick awakening as I headed out to Ghana to conduct fieldwork on a gold exploration project. This was an amazing experience which provided me with practical skills in prospect mapping, geochemical sampling and drill hole targeting. Whilst out on site, I felt secure in the knowledge that I had the expertise of SRK to assist with any problems: technical, logistical or personal. Since completing my MSc I have been working for SRK in the Resource Geology department for over a year. This has provided many opportunities to work in the fields of resource reporting, geological modelling, geological and geotechnical logging on a wide variety of commodities ranging from iron ore to gold. Now, upon leaving SRK I know that I have much more industry awareness and appreciation of the responsibilities expected of a professional resource geologist. My technical skills and applied geological knowledge are vastly improved thanks to the consultants and training provided by SRK."
